Sports Recognition Night & Ice Cream Social
Tuesday, April 17, 2012
This year's Kilgour Sports Recognition Night will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 6pm in the Kilgour Gym. The children will line up outside the gym in the courtyard. They will then enter the gym by grade in an informal parade – while the parents inside the gym cheer them on. Each child that played a Kilgour sport will then receive a small memento such as a miniature basketball, baseball/softball and/or soccer ball in recognition of their hard work. Afterwards, the children (and parents) will be treated to ice cream in the courtyard! This is a fun event for the kids. Spring sports coaches (soccer, baseball and softball) have been asked to cancel practice for this evening so that the children can attend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Growing Up Program
Opportunity to view videos: Wednesday, May 2 from 6pm - 7pm
The Growing Up program at Kilgour Elementary has been a part of Kilgour's curriculum for over 40 years. The purpose of the program is to help the intermediate students understand the changes that their bodies and the bodies of their peers are undergoing. In recent years, several of the organizations that provided this program to our school community lost funding due to hard economic times and were no longer available to provide the curriculum. In order to ensure that this important program was able to be provided and presented in a consistent, age-appropriate manner, last school year the PTA previewed and purchased a video-based curriculum in 4 parts called Healthy Me. This curriculum was presented at the end of last school year to the students. This year, before spring break, volunteer parent dyads (each having at least one psychologist and/or physician) presented the videos and answered questions in 45 - 60 minute sessions. Students viewed the videos in groups with peers of the same grade and gender. 4th graders viewed the video on "Good Hygiene", 5th graders viewed the video on "Looking Ahead" (puberty changes in the same gender) and the video on "Having a Positive Body Image", and 6th graders viewed the video on "Looking Ahead" (puberty changes in the opposite gender).
The curriculum and parent volunteers were coordinated by Laura Stith Deck, Ph.D., a child psychologist. She will be offering a viewing of each of the 4 videos (approximately 10 minutes each) and will answer questions about the program on Wednesday May 2 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Please RSVP (
) – if there is no parental interest, there will be no program on this night.
Dear Kilgour Families,
We are requesting that you take a few minutes of your time to complete the following survey about Mustang Monday. It should take less than 3 minutes of your time. Thanks! We look forward to your responses. To take the survey, click on the link here.
2012-2013 School Year Plan in Progress!
Plans are in progress for the upcoming year! Based on student enrollment and district budget procedures, we will plan for the appropriate staffing and classrooms! However, we really need your help! If you have an incoming Kindergarten student or 1-6 student (not currently enrolled at Kilgour), please sure to make contact with Ms. Law in the office (363-3001) and complete the necessary enrollment procedures no later than May 1st. Also, if you have a neighbor or friend, who lives in our area but has not yet enrolled, please encourage him/her to enroll ASAP or no later than June 1st. Having accurate numbers for enrollment help to ensure appropriate staffing and resources.
*Please also note that other than incoming kindergarten students, teacher requests are not considered. Consideration is provided for siblings, however, based on several factors, there is also no guarantee.
Kilgour School Boundaries: Re-Opening of Hyde Park School
As a result of the re-opening of Hyde Park school this fall, the former Hyde Park streets along with Kilgour school boundaries have been reviewed by CPS Central office and tentative plans in place for new boundaries being confirmed.
What does this mean for current Kilgour families?
Current families, living in Hyde Park or Oakley (major streets being impacted by the re-opening), ARE ABLE TO REMAIN AT KILGOUR school. A grandfather policy is in effect to allow current families to remain at Kilgour school, despite the boundaries changes.
There has not been a confirmed period for "grandfather" policy. However as long as you have a child currently attending Kilgour school and within CPS boundaries (and not a discipline or attendance concern), the student may remain at Kilgour school.
For additional information in regards to the boundaries and changes, please feel free to contact our District parent center at 363-0123. You may also feel free to contact Ms. Cook Frazier via phone 363-3090 or email
. Stay tuned for additional information in upcoming newsletters and school updates!
