PTA Meeting Minutes - November 4, 2009 |

Present: Lori Raser, Laura Stith Deck, Angela Cook, Jenny Workum, Mark Severin, Terry K. Armstrong, Jennifer Rodes, Sue Poynter, Diane Brueggemann, Kristen Bickel, Peggy Groeber, Tippy Hummel, Julie Anne Baur, Aronda Rodgers, Jerome Rodgers, Lynn Vainrib
I. Meeting Opening - A motion was made to open the meeting (motion – Jenny Workum, second – Kristen Bickel). a. Thank you to Laura Deck for our great Directory! b. Thank you to Diane Brueggemann for coordinating the Harvest Dance!
II. Recording Secretary a. Approval of minutes – A motion was made to approve the October 2009 minutes without corrections (motion – Diane Brueggemann, second - Angela). Motion passed. b. Directory – Laura reminded everyone that a correction sheet for the Directory will be distributed in mid-November. Any corrections should be emailed to her. She has only received 2 corrections so far.
III. Treasurer’s Report a. Lori was not able to be present, but the budget was handed out.
IV. Principal’s Report a. School updates i. Erin Hans is the new Kindergarten teacher. Her classroom is the former teacher’s lounge. There are 14 kids in her classroom. ii. Mrs. Cole is recovering from shoulder surgery. b. The big dead tree in front of school was cut down over the 4 day weekend. The new tree has been planted. Another tree in memory of Nancy Rains was replaced since it was damaged. c. H1N1 vaccine day is Tuesday November 10 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. d. Reminders i. Use the sidewalks and walkways. Please do not walk on the lawn. ii. Parking lots are for STAFF parking during the school day. e. Thanks and kudos i. Volunteers and support with costume parade and harvest dance ii. Voting to renew Issue 52 (CPS levy) which passed by a large margin yesterday. f. Spring pictures i. Lifetouch approached Kilgour about Spring pictures that would be prepaid students only. A suggestion was made that this be offered to new students who missed their picture opportunity in the autumn. g. Organization of the clothing closet is needed. It was announced that this has been taken care of. A suggestion was made that there be a costume closet for kids who could not afford one. Julie Ann offered to coordinate this. It was suggested that costumes be recruited now before parents get rid of them.
V. Teachers’ Report – Mrs. Armstrong a. Writing contest – Mrs. Armstrong asked what to do with them. Kristen Bickel related that she and Dave Shirey will come around to collect them. b. Mrs. Armstrong related that she enjoyed seeing all the kids dancing at the Harvest Dance. c. Mrs. Armstrong thanked the PTA for their constant support.
VI. New Business
a. Peggy Groeber – 6th Grade Fundraising Proposal i. Another bus is needed to take this large class on their Columbus trip. ii. Peggy suggested that the 6th graders be given an opportunity to sell spring bulbs over one single weekend. The bulbs are delivered directly to those who ordered them. iii. A motion was made that PTA take the money in and write a single check to the bulb company (motion – Diane Brueggemann, second – Mark Severin). Motion passed.
VII. Old Business - None
VIII. Board Members’ Update a. President – Nothing to report.
b. President –Elect i. Silent Auction – This Friday night, November 6, at the Redmoor in Mt. Lookout Square. It is the PTA’s largest fundraiser. There will be food and a cash bar. 237 RSVPs as of today, which is the largest silent auction so far (last year 221 showed up). There will be live auction that starts at 10 p.m. PTA is paying for valet parking. Lou Carli will be the MC. A slide show of photos taken of the students will run during the auction. People can buy photos.
c. First Vice Presidents – Room Parents – Nothing to report
d. Second Vice Presidents – Programs i. Thanksgiving food drive runs November 10-20. Kristen is asking Student Council to run it. Food is going to Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEAC). ii. First quarter assemblies run next week – Thursday, Friday, and Monday – it is a portable planetarium. iii. Sherree Allgood has agreed to take the lead on the Everybody Counts program.
e. Third Vice Presidents – Carnival – Amy Bashor was not present. Lori Raser related that we are looking for people to take over smaller sections of the carnival (e.g., games, rides, etc.).
f. Fundraising Chair i. Entertainment Book Sale is over. Sally Foster Sale is over – pick up will be Wednesday, November 18th, in the gym. ii. Joseph-Beth Book Fair scheduled for weekend of Dec. 5th & 6th. More info will come in Tuesday envelopes.
g. Inside/Outside Enrichment i. Dianne thanked everyone for helping with the Harvest Dance. 336 bottle of water were consumed. ii. Skate dates are confirmed – January 22, February 5, February 19. iii. Ski day is February 8. iv. Bowling dates are TBD.
h. Corresponding Secretary – Judy Neff was not present.
i. Public Relations – Beth Schenk was not present.
j. Auditor – David Carns was not present.
k. Buildings and Grounds – Jules Hemsky was not present.
l. Membership i. Lynn reminded people that we still have quite a few car magnets and new families and families who do not have them displayed on their car can be encouraged to buy them. The cost is $3.
m. Technology – Steve Wetzel was not present.
n. LSDMC - There will be follow up with Mary Ronin about what Kilgour’s space options are as we continue to grow.
IX. Closing a. Holiday meeting Wednesday, December 2, at 7:00PM at the home of Lori Raser. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share, and beverages will be served. b.
